Programa Interamericano sobre Educación en Prácticas y Valores Democráticos

Survey

This survey is a key element of the Inter-American Program on Education for Democratic Values and Practices. The purpose of this survey is to document current national, regional, or local policies in education for democratic citizenship, and related areas, throughout the Hemisphere, and to identify common challenges and priority needs which the Inter-American Program could help address. This Survey seeks to identify and document each country's unique approach so as to recognize, respect and respond to it.

The results of this survey will serve as an initial “mapping” of the current state of policy making and implementation in the Hemisphere in the field of education for democratic citizenship. These results also will guide the construction of a “Portfolio” of promising policies and programs in the field. Some policy initiatives documented through this survey may be selected for inclusion in the Portfolio.

This Portfolio of promising initiatives builds on the Portfolio of Strategies and Programs for Promoting a Democratic Culture through Education constructed by the Organization of American States in 2004. The Portfolios respond to a mandate of the region's Ministers of Education to identify, organize, and exchange promising programs and practices, as well as to support their critical transfer to other contexts. The Portfolio will include promising initiatives from the formal education sector and the non-formal sector. Since the Portfolio will concentrate on programs and practices in addition to policies, we will seek additional information on those programs and practices at a later date. Again, the focus of this survey is on national, regional, or local policies in the area of education for democratic citizenship.

We greatly appreciate your candid responses to the questions below. If there is anything we can do to help you complete the survey, please let us know.

Instructions:

Please complete this survey by July 28th, 2006. The results of this survey will be available by September, 2006. They will be disseminated via the Inter-American Program's Internet webpage at www.educadem.oas.org and via other media to facilitate the exchange of information between our member countries.
